OGC-Specific MIME Types in WMS 1.3.0

Hello,

I noticed that version 1.3.0 of the WMS specification has no mention of the OGC-Specific MIME types (e.g., "application/vnd.ogc.wms_xml" for the WMS Capabilities XML) defined in version 1.1.1 and earlier. Is is reasonable to continue using these MIME types in a 1.3.0 GetCapabilities response, or should I switch to the more generic "text/xml" for all XML responses?

Thanks,

Bob

OGC-Specific MIME Types in WMS 1.3.0

Hi -

Was wondering if you are asking a question or if this is a suggestion for a chnage/enhancement to WMS. If this is a requirement or suggested change request, could you please send a formal email outlining exactly what your requirements are and how you would like to see the change made? This way, we can have the OGC membership review and discuss your requirement/change request. You can do this by emailing to info@opengeospatial.org to my attention.

I could also do with confirmation of this, due to recent tests in applications consuming XML responses from a WMS server and not handling the OGC specific mime types appropriatly.

I would be keen to see more generic text/xml types employed, unless there is a specific reason ofr a computer system to determine between an OGC response and another form of response.

Bob -

Well, I got a pretty succinct response back from the WMS Editor:

"People hated the OGC-specific types so much that we eliminated them in 1.3."

So, I guess you shoukd go with the more generic text/xml approach!
