    • There is a 100mb limit on each site, which seems fixed and which the AIP-2 site has now bumped up against.
    • Two possibilities:
      • 1) Create another site for follow-on and pre-AIP-3 collaboration.
      • 2) Create a Standard Google Apps account (also free). This would have a space limit of 10gb and include Calendar and Docs under the same domain, but requires an external domain or subdomain to be associated with it (e.g. aip.opengeospatial.org).
    • In the near-term, Josh will be deleting outdated materials on the Google Site.  Others should consider deleting material as well.
    • In the longer-term, use of a Google Site with a domain name like aip.geoss.org will be considered in the planning for AIP-3.  This will be discussed with the GEOSec and considering the resources they offer.
  • GEOSS Best Practice Registry - AIP contributions to BP wiki
    • 1) An SBA topic from the list below based upon which SBA group is most interested in participating in the wiki- based dialogue.   No SBA groups have volunteered so far to take up this effort.
    • 2) "Persistent Exemplar Services" Topic. This is a topic that we have partially developed in AIP but really need wide community discussion and adoption of the approach.  GEorge will excerpt the AIP-2 Summary ER material on this topic and post to the BP wiki to start the discussion.

    • It was suggested that we should consider the Architecture Workshop approach used prior to AIP-2 (Workshop held in February 2008 at JRC).  That we should hold an architecture workshop in advance of the AIP-3 CFP.  It was suggested that the GEO Plenary in Washington in November would be a good opportunity.   But time is short in regards to reserving space for such a workshop.  George will pursue ADC interest in an architecture workshop and then pursue space in Washington in November.

The workshop will be chaired by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and is being organised by the CEOS Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) and GSICS (Global Space-based Inter-calibration System). The main output of the workshop will be an implementation strategy for GEO.
      • As data and data quality is being discussed as an element of AIP-3, it would be good to have AIP attendance at the workshop.
      • Discussion that there is a need to link the instrument calibration practices with information technology to allow propagation of the uncertainty into the GEOSS information systems.  Specific examples of standards from ISO and OGC regarding information technology for data quality and uncertainty were discussed.  George mentioned UncertML and the recent experiments in OWS-6 Testbed.  Gobe mentioned the ISO 191XX series of standards.   George to send a message summarizing the IT standards relevant to the QA discussions.

    • Disaster Management SBA ER (Didier)
      • Stuart has sent a version for review to the DM WG
      • The UML diagrams are being further developed.  Larry and Hervé exchanged messages last week.  Larry to forward message to Stuart.
    • Unified Modeling ER (Larry)
      • Draft version posted as an attachment to the ER Drafts Google page.  Send comments to Larry McGovern.  Larry to send a message to AIP_Plenary announcing the ER draft.
      • Larry commented that there remains a need to have a common approach across the various SBA groups.  This is similar comment that during the development of the scenarios that each SBA group approached GEOSS with a different concept about the architecture.  There is continued need for AIP to promote a common understanding of the GEOSS SoA architecture and for a common process for modeling across SBAs.  This will be addressed further in AIP-3.
    • End-to-End Discovery and Access ER (Josh)
      • Josh received input from Marten and seeking inputs from Ted and Steve.
      • Plan for a complete draft this week.
    • Workflow and Processing ER (Greg) - draft version reviewed by WG?; no report this telecon.

    • AIP-2 Engineering Reports
      • To GEOSS Best Practice Registry
        • Discussion with Ruth Duerr: advise not to post as single documents but rather as individual items directly in the wiki
        • Examples of items from one document posted as three separate items:
        • AIP-2 team discussed how to approach this.
          • The approach of dissecting the current ERs so as to put all content directly into the wiki was not seen as value added.   The context provided by having a complete document would be lost.  Any possible benefit of direct editing of the document contents in the wiki are outweighed by the effort to dissect and the loss of context.
          • The group did see value in listing a series of BP topics in the wiki and linking to the ERs.  AIP participants would make the summary entries into the wiki for the various BP topics.
          • There was discussion of how the BP topics might relate to the set of ERs.  For the SBA ERs it was felt that they are a singular BP and that there would be one BP topic for each SBA ER.  For other ERs (e.g., Unified Model ER and Summary ER) there could be several BP Topics.
          • George to provide a summary of the discussion to Ruth along with an initial list of BP topics and the associated ERs.

      • Koki took action to ask Mike
  • GEOSS Sensor Web Workshop 2009, May 21-22, 2009, Tsukuba, Japan
    • Report of workshop from Ingo Simonis
      • Ingo was impressed with the number of services that have been set up for sensors and model predictions in Asia.
      • There has been little reporting of the implementations and the needs identified by the implementers back to the standards bodies, e.g., OGC SWE.  This means that in some cases the implementations have been tweaked beyond compliance to the standard in order to meet the particular needs.
      • There is a clear need for a naming authority, e.g., the URIs in specifications and named phenomena.  OGC now has a naming authority which has been created since the standards were first approved.  Need registries for phenomena so that identical phenonmena use the same term.
      • There are several relevant GEO activities:
        • GEOSS registry to hold multiple registries for terms
        • GEOSS task for ontology mapping
        • Registry and sensors work in AIP-3
      • A report and the presentations will be posted by Ingo
    • Next Workshop plans
      • There will be a workshop at the APAN conference in Sydney in February 2010, organized by CSIRO

      • Now when registering a service at CSR, it is possible to seamlessly enter a new Interoperability Arrangement into the SIR without going to the SIR.
      • Next functionality will be notification of SRI changes to CSR registered component owners.
    • GEOSS system-wide capability with Interoperability Arrangements
      • Jeff dlB began this discussion by commenting that when registering a standard in the SIR, the user should be informed of the GEOSS capabilities supported for that standard.
      • For example more capability is provided WMS as an interoperability arrangement than for a generic WSDL described service.  this was a particular example in AIP-2.
      • Linking standards in SIR to entries in the Bset Practices registry will help answer this question: "Where is it recorded what capabilities are offered by GEOSS services for the various interoperability arrangements?"
      • This will be partially accomplished by posting the AIP-2 ERs to Best Practice Registry.  Also should be discussed for AIP-3.
    • Next AIP Telecon: 9 June 2009

Telecon 26 May 2009

There was a peak of 26 participants on the WebEx for this session.

Discussions

  • Demo Video Post-production
    • Workspace for status of videos
      • All videos except Landsat video from GMU are posted.  George needs to record the voice over for the GMU video.
      • Mark is reviewing the posted videos and may ask for additional inputs, e.g, 640x480 is too low resolution
      • Mark's job can be done best if he has all of the project files from Camtesia or other tool.  The project files should be uploaded to the ftp site.  The project files are desire even if you have posted the .mp4 or .mov formats.
      • DM and Biodiversity videos are too be reposted this week.
    • Status of producing the AIP-2 Video DVD and Web page
      • Will be similar to AIP-1 Video demo web page

Telecon 19 May 2009

There was a peak of 23 participants on the WebEx for this session.

Discussions

  • Demo Capture Workshop Results
    • AIP-2 Capture workshop was conducted on May 4-5.  Several of the videos were presented at the ADC and UIC meetings later in the week.
    • Demo developers are uploading their videos to the ftp site.  The status of videos is recorded on this AIP-2 Demo Video Workspace.
    • ACTION: Demo video developers who have yet to post their videos to the ftp site, should do so this week.
    • OGC is developing plans for producing the AIP-2 Video DVD and Web page
    • During the Stresa week of meetings, Mike Tanner of the GEOSec discussed creating a YouTube channel.  The AIP-2 Videos may be relevant to that channel.
    • ACTION: George to send message to Mike Tanner regarding GEOSS YouTube channel - message has been sent as of 20 May
  • Results of other Events in Stresa relevant to AIP-2

    • Friday: ADC/UIC joint meeting,  (presentation to UIC/ADC ).
      • Demo videos presented:
    • Discussions at ADC and UIC meetings relevant to AIP
      • This section was organized using Stresa Discussions summary  provided by Nadine.
      • Multiplicity of clearinghouses
        • There was general agreement that we should move to a single clearinghouse for the operational architecture.  Josh commented that this was naive.
      • End-to-end discovery
        • GEO Web Portal Content Management.  Discussion of seperating the web page content management and search from the clearinghouse search of metadata records.
        • Discussion of the different types of users, e.g., "person on the street,"  "science user," "decision maker".  Need to reveiw the user categories from the IOC Operations Concept document.
        • Need for additional clients, e.g., view clients - Bind is tougher than Find
      • How to make the searches “better”
        • Doug Nebert presented excerpts of his presentation to the ADC.
          • The contents of the CSR have doubled during AIP-2.
          • CSR has been updated and the content has been reviewed and updated.
          • A CSR review board is proposed - similar to the SIF for the SIR.
          • Currently there are many web sites in the CSR whereas the CSR should contain components and services with links to web pages that describe them.
          • Doug commented that the Content management of the GEO Web Portals should be minimized.  There were questions why he believes that.  Doug commented that content in the GWPs will undercut the registration in CSR.  Doug does encourage community portals to contain web pages. George commented that the GWP web pages are valuable resource that we should provide a index for.
          • Doug described and demo the Google search index for searching GEOSS web pages.
          • Josh commented that Google search is predicated on a specific information model, namely web pages and words associated via links.  Google site map does provide a good resource for those types of searches.
          • Clearinghouse search performance was described as poor as the hetorgeneity of the data and models implemented by the community catalogues.  This is an area of work that should continue to be refined in last stages of AIP-2.
        • A summary of the discussion of the web page and metadata record search needs for GEOSS not presented in the telecon:
          • Two approaches to search need to be developed for two different use cases:
          • 1.  "Person on the street: Barb's mom" -> Google-or-like-search -> web pages ->  portals (GWP and community)
          • 2.  "Science and Decision support user" ->  Clearinghouse fielded search ->  data set and service metadata records -> community catalogues
          • All components need to be registered: portals, catalogues, clearinghouse, google-like search engine.
        • A seperate telecon will be organized for this discussion: Wednesday, 20 May, 9:00 EDT
        • Need to finish AIP-2 and identify issues for AIP-3.

Telecon 24 March 2009

There was a peak of 23 participants on the Web Ex for this session.

Discussions

  • Finishing Unit Testing
    • Reconfirming IOC Use Cases
      • It is important that we restablish that the GEOSS Common Infrasturcture is still at or better than its IOC capability. This can be done by the Unit Testing in AIP-2 using the GCI Components and the AIP-2 Use Cases
      • Use cases: 01, 03, and 04 will be used to show registration and discovery functionality
        • Each of the three GEO Web Portals will need to be tested against all of the three GEOSS Clearinghouses.
      • UC05 and UC06 will be used to confirm access functionality.
        • The requirement for GEO Web Portals is only to access WMS.  It is okay if a GEO Web Portal can access other types of services.  If a Geo Web Portal access SPS then that is great. But there is no requirement that the GEO Web Portals access all services listed in the Use Case 6.
        • Use of services beyond WMS is encouraged for the scenarios.   It is anticipated that community portals and application clients might be needed to access the full list of services in UC05.
      • Preparing for Stresa
        • By the time of the Stresa meetings, May 4th, the GCI component testing needs to be complete and we should be ready to capture demonstrations of the portals as we did for AIP-1.
        • Robert Thomas indicated that Compusult can support this schedule.
        • Gianni Sotis indicated that ESA can support this schedule.
        • Marten Hogeweg indicated that ESRI can support this schedule.
      • Josh Lieberman will make this topic the main thing on the Wednesday telecon.  The telecon will be a joint Portals WG and CCRM WG telecon.
        • The Interchange Matrix will be focused on the unit testing associated with UC01, UC02, UC04, UC05, UC06.
        • The communication of test discrepancies will be review
    • Identifying Persistent Exemplars
      • A deliverable from AIP-2 is to be a list of components that meet the criteria of Persistent Exemplar.   A spot has been created to record the identified Persistent Exemplars.
      • Hervé, Nadine and Josh are supporting the identification of peristant exemplar components through their respective WG pages: access, clients, ccrm
      • Persistent exemplars must be registered in the  CSR.  The list of persistent exemplars will be a subset of CSR registered comopnents that meeting the criteria.

        • The WG experience with the Disaster Charter will be presented as part of the discussion to the ADC in Stresa
      • Cyclone scenario was reported on by Ron Lowther
        • The SIREN Portal will be moved to the operational server on March 31.  this will allow more visibility
        • The Cyclone scenario from the NGC CFP response will be put on the Google sites page this week.
        • There was discussion about how visible are the services that the SIREN Portal accesses.  The data is resident at operational weather agencies and being served to users through the SIREN portal.   It is unclear if the services at the agencies are available for other clients/portals to access.  George will discuss this further discuss this with Ron and his group.

Telecon 17 March 2009

Discussions

  • Progress on Unit Testing
    • Unit Test Workflow
    • Interchange Matrix  and  Test Log
    • Not much progress since last time.
    • ESA has tested the clearinghouses and has comments. Josh will give Gianni access to the matrix so that he can input his test results
    • We need to populate the matrix with the components identified in the scenario. Folks need more guidance. Josh will organize a telecon on Friday to go over the process and expand the matrix.
    • The titles of the services and clients need to be more descriptive (at least to indicate the type of service, WMS, CSW, etc). This would help as the matrix grows.
    • Some components are both clients and services (e.g. Clearinghouses are clients to catalogs but they’re services to the Portals & clients)
    • We need to add the 3 geoportals to the matrix
    • SIREN will be added as soon as the system is operational (end of March)
    • We need to follow up with RE and BIOCC on their components
  • Transverse Technology WG Updates - focus on Use Cases for Testing
    • Workflow and Processing
      • Workflow had a telecon last week and focused on SSE; now looking at how to contribute to the interchange matrix and checking on using geobrain for the AQ and Disaster scenarios
    • Portals and Application Clients
      • Portals & Clients are supporting the testing but need to seek out clients other than the 3 geoportals (going back to the CFP responses and working with the community WGs)
    • Test Facility
      • Test Facility has published a new page on google site “Proxy View” for service testing endpoints. The Test Skeleton was highlighted.
      • Gianni also went over the results of his tests against the clearinghouses and noted the need for a policy when a problem occurs (does the user contact the clearinghouse manager; is the problem a harvest issue or a metadata entry issue; how do we keep track of the chain of metadata as it gets ingested into the clearinghouses and made available to the users)
    • Clearinghouse, Catalogues, Registries and Metadata
      • Steve gave an update on the registries (still have work to do but hopefully the new versions will be live within a week if no other work takes precedence);
      • Steve is also reviewing UC#10 and will give Josh feedback.
      • Finally, Josh went over the 4 additional queryable fields proposed by AQ (see follow-up email from Erin). These will be discussed in the next CCRM telecon.
    • Access Services: products, sensors, models
      • Access WG is working on capturing the different approaches to model access by listing all the models used in the pilot and describing how they’re accessed.
      • Herve is putting out a call looking for an alert service (supporting Atom).
  • AIP-2 Development Models: RM-ODP and UML
    • Not discussed
  • Any other business
    • GCI Requirements Document
      • This document describes the fundamental requirements for all elements of the GCI.
      • Developed by the GEOSS Initial Operating Capability (GIOC) Task Force
      • Comments are due by March 26, 2009.
      • Comments are to be submitted to Doug Nebert (ddnebert@usgs.gov) for Task Force consideration and adjudication.
      • This document is the second of four documents to be prepared by the GIOC Task Force.
      • Doug provided an overview (emphasizing the sources of information used to create the tables in the document). There was a suggestion to do something similar for non-CGI components (e.g. Community services, catalogs & portals). The next version of the document will also include a test framework (for self-evaluation against the requirements) No other comments
    • GEO ADC meetings, 3-8 May, Stesa, Italy; colocated with ISRSE
      • AIP-2 Demo Capture Workshop, May 4-5
      • GEO ADC meeting, May 7-8

Telecon 3 March 2009

There was a peak of 28 participants on the Web Ex for this session.

Discussions

  • Progress on Unit Test Phase #1
    • Unit Test Workflow
    • Interchange Matrix  and  Test Log
      • There is a need for more guidance and outreach to support participants using the matrix and log.  Josh will pursue this.
      • There were unexpected links for the blog headings that Josh will investigate.
      • To use the Google sites and Blog you need a google account.  Contact Josh (jlieberman at traversetechnologies.com) for further assistance.
      • Josh to make the link to the Interchange Matrix more apparent on the AIP google sites main page.
    • Identifying Persistent Exemplars
    • USGS Service Checker - Doug Nebert
      • Update on Test Facility page
      • a link to this URL to the Service Checker.
      • Score that is returned is an artifact of the prior development of the service checker.  The most informative part is the green or red arrows showing success or failure of the tests.
      • Testing now of WMS.  Developing testing for WCS, WFS, CSW, and Z39.50
      • Looking for someone to host an RSS feed of the services that are too be routinely checked by the service checker.  Josh indicated that this might be possible with the Interchange Matrix on Google sites.
      • Lionel asked about WSDL services.  Doug commented that there are existing services for checking WSDL comments.  Perhaps the WSi site has those tools.  Additional discussion regarded that those services can check if the document is a valid WSDL document, but are weaker in developing requests based on the WSDL document that are then requested of the on-line service.
      • Stuart asked who is going to use the service checker?  The checker can be used by a service in advance of registration and the plan is to run it routinely to determine operational status.  See Use Case 09.  It is optional to test before registration, but some organizations had requested such a capabiltiy in AIP-1.
      • Further discussion of the service checker is anticiapted in the Wednesday telecon for CCRM.
    • Unit Test Phase #2
      • As there is no clear demarcation between Unit Test Phase #1 and #2, we will simply refer to this as Unit Testing, and not refer to phases.
    • Ron Lowther asked about the status of the Disaster Management Scenario
      • Ron's team is focusing on a hurricane strike.
      • Stuart suggested that this could be included in the flooding scenario.
      • Hervé noted that updates would be needed to the scenario.
      • Stuart, Ron and Hervé agreed to discuss this further.
  • Transverse Technology WG Updates - focus on Use Cases for Testing
    • Portals and Application Clients
      • Nadine Alameh provided an update for the WG
      • Two use cases have been further developed (UC04 and UC05).  Futher refinement is anticipated as testing proceeds.
      • Need to continue to make distinctions as to which type of clients are being used:  GEO Portal, Community Portal, Application Clients, Portlets.
      • Also need to add a pre-condition to UC05 that the user has a client that matches the services that are to be invoked.  Note that no client connects to all services.
      • UC07 is not yet a priority and will be worked on later.
    • Test Facility
      • Gianni Sotis provided an update for the WG.
      • The USGS Service checker should be listed under the tools section of Test Facility google sites - Doug Nebert action.
      • Discussion of the "Test Me" button should be added to the Use CAse09
      • The SSE remains avaialble as a facility for testing.  No AIP-2 requests have been made to use SSE.
      • George suggested a telecon of the Test Facility WG to address these issues.
    • Clearinghouse, Catalogues, Registries and Metadata
      • Josh Lieberman provided an update for the WG.
      • UC03 has been updated to an intial draft state.
      • Further discussion is needed of how to search for services not listed in the CSR
      • Erin has done an excellent job on cross-walk of elements between a getCapabilities response and an ISO 19115/19 document.
      • Josh suggested that the group needs to discuss where the service status information is to be listed and displayed.  Do results form the service checker appear in the CSR?

Telecon 24 February 2009

There was a peak of 13 participants on the Web Ex for this session.

Discussions

  • Progress on Unit Test Phase #1
    • Unit Test Workflow
    • Interchange Matrix  and  Test Log
      • Entries in the table are slow in coming, but everyone felt the defined process was a good one with clarifications and automation.
      • The USGS EDC service facility is near ready for deployment.  The facilty can be used to test components in unit test phase 1 and for on-going testing during operations.  Plasn are to add a "Test Me Now" button in the CSR registration process.  The test facility will be discussed during the 10:30 EDT Wednesday time slot typically used by WGs.  Doug Nebert to lead the telecon.
      • Josh will develop additional guidance on the Interchange Matrix and help to fill in some of the links in the matrix.
      • Components listed in the matrix row and column headings should be linked to their entry in the CSR.
  • Scenarios to UC Matrix
    • Hervé provided an overview of how the cells of the Scenario-to-UseCase Matrix provide links to the Specialized Use Cases. The specialized use cases adapt the general use cases to the specifics of the scenarios.  The AQ group provided an excellent summary of their specialized use cases during the their WG group report - see notes below.  The series of cross-WG telecons in January have been a major method for completing this analysis.
    • INCOSE models - Larry McGovern and George Percivall met last Friday to discuss how the models being developed by INCOSE can be combined with the Scenario and Use Case developments on the Google Sites.  Larry worked with the Disaster Management WG to revise the models which now appear in the Disaster Scenario in MS Word format.  There was discussion that this work needs more visibility: communications should be on AIP mailing lists and the models should be posted to the google sites.   Larry's group has grown recently and will now address more topics.
      • ACTION:Telecon to discsuss AIP-2 models considering tailoring of ISO/IEC 19793.  Those wanting to participate are Larry, Hervé, Josh, Nadine and George - any else interested should contact George.  Telecon needs to happen this week.
  • Community WG updates: focusing on components for Scenarios
    • Disasters
      • Didier Giacobbo and Stuart Frye provided an update for the WG.
      • The Disasters Management scenario in google sites is mature.  The Disaster Management scenario in the Word document includes the UML models.  The two versions of the scenario are in sync. It would be good to publish the UML models on the Google Sites page.
      • The Disasters WG results can be a basis for others to use.
      • There is interest in the scenario development to be more visible, e.g., use the AIP WG mailing lists for discussions and announcements of any telecons.
      • Josh and others commented that the 19793 approach should be viewed as informative to the development process.  There is no aticipation that the UML models will be used in a Model Driven Architecture fashion to create software code for example.
      • The Disasters WG aims to develop a list of components needed to implement their scenario.  A draft of the list is anticipated to be availabe within 2 weeks.
      • It would be of value to know the relationships between use cases and the types of components.
        • ACTION: George to develop a matrix that maps between use cases and component types
      • The Disasters WG is planning to have a WG telecon.
    • Climate Change and Biodiversity
      • There was no one to provide a report for the WG.
      • Larry indicated that he is looking for material he can use to develop models.
      • Doug indicated that UML models are being developed as part of the Landsat vegetation processing project.  There will be a telecon on this scenario on Monday March 2nd.  Doug will annoucne the telecon to the group.  The telecon will also discuss a list of components for this scenario.
      • Other scenarios in the CC&Bio WG need to develop their scenarios and lists of components for those scenarios.
    • Renewable Energy
      • There was no one to provide a report for the WG.
      • Larry indicated that he has finished modeling the RE Scenario and is seeking to review with the WG. Larry to contact Lionel.
    • Air Quality and Health
      • Stefan Falke provided an update for the WG.
      • The AQ WG worked with the Transverse Tech WGs to develop specialized use cases.  The WG examined the generalized use cases and then determined how they would be achieved in the context of AQ.  For example UC01 and UC02 are specialized for deploying and registering a specific WCS service.  The resulting specialized use cases are documented on seperate google sites pages which are linked into the cells of the Scenario-to-UseCase matrix.  UC03 and UC04 are also specialized regarding metadata for AQ.
      • In specialized UC04 there was discussion of using just the ESRI REST interface as this is only provided by ESRI and not the other component providers.  There was discussion that OpenSearch may be an option.  In any case the GEO catalogues need to support the CSW Core Queriables in a search.
      • Larry expressed interest to work with the AQ group to model their scenario in UML.  Larry and Stefan will coordinate on this.
      • Stefan commented that the telecon with the Transvers Tech WGs was very valuable to build the scenario and specialized use cases.
      • The AQ WG will develop a list of components for thier scenario.
      • The AQ WG will hold telecon on Friday at 1:30.

Telecon 17 February 2009

There was a peak of 23 participants on the Web Ex for this session.

Discussions

  • Progress on Unit Test Phase #1
    • Message to Plenary : Call for components for test phase #1
      • USGS is establishing a testing service at the Eros Data Center (EDC) that can be used for initial and routine status testing of services.  This is as described in Use Case 09 and as described in the Message to the plenary announcing the initiation of Unit Testing.  The ESA SSE provides a similar capability.
    • Interchange Matrix  and  Test Log
      • Not all GEOSS registered components should be listed in the Interchange Matrix.  The matrix should list services that are invovled in the Community Scenarios and those that plan to be persistent exemplars.
      • It may be that the Interchange Matrix becomes too large as a single matrix.  The matrix may need to be broken into seperate matricies perhaps one matrix per use case.
  • Scenarios to UC Matrix
    • Specialized use cases - an update - Hervé
      • There was discussion of the generalized Use Cases and specialized Use Cases.
      • The top row of the matrix provides links to the Scenarios.  The Scenarios provide description of the steps in the scenario and list the generalized Use Case for each step.
      • The left column lists the generalized Use Cases.
      • The cells in the matrix provide links to the specialized Use Cases.
      • Specialize use cases provide more detail than the generalized use cases.  Some of the specialization is due to the detail needed to support testing: WMS and CAP as specialized use cases of UC06, Interact with Services.  Some of the specialization is needed to support the specific scenario: mediation in the Biodiversity Scenario as a specialization of UC03 and 04.
    • INCOSE models - Larry
      • The INCOSE team has developed additional information for the scenarios that can now be included.  The most recent work has been with Disasters and Renewable Energy.
      • The approach to incorporate the UML models from INCOSE with the scenarios and use cases listed in the Google Sites needs to be developed.  For example how the UML IT views related to the Use Cases.
      • Larry McGovern and George Percivall are meeting on Friday 20 February to discuss this.
  • Transverse Technology WG Updates - focus on WG Use Cases for Testing
    • Test Facility
      • Gianni Sotis provided an upate for the working group
      • The SSE test facility is up and running.  Component providers who want to use the SSE to test their components (UC09) will need to setup an account on SSE .
      • The SSE and the EDC Service Checker are anticipated to both be avaialable to GEOSS as Test Facilities.
      • Use Case 09 for the Test Facility are avaialble.
    • Clearinghouse, Catalogues, Registries and Metadata
      • CCRM had a telecon last week
      • Action from last plenary telecon: define consistent approach for Web Accessible Folder (WAF).
      • CCRM discussions resovled that the basic query elements for space and time are well established, e.g., CSW core queryables.  There is a need for basic query elements for parameters. There are several parameter lists avaiablle including GCMD and GEMET (INSPIRE/EEA developed). The CEOS Systems Engineering group is developing a list of terms for observerables - this should be ready this fall for use in AIP.
        • CCRM should develop a recommendation for core GEOSS parameters anticipating that this cannot be implemted in AIP-2.
    • Access Services: products, sensors, models
      • Herve Caumont provided an update for the Working Group
      • There was a telecon on 29 January.
      • Specialized use cases are being developed, e.g., CAP, SOS, etc.
      • Specialized use cases for models are needed.  Stefano, Gary and Glenn have been working on this.  Herve to check.
      • Many of the use cases are ready for testing.
      • WFS specialized use case needs work to identify how it relates to the persistent exemplar data services that are needed as framework data for the scenarios.
        • Need to connect with the UIC Data tasks that are under development.
    • Workflow and Alerts
      • Eugene Yu provided an update for the Working Group
      • The GMU BPEL Power workflow system is up and running.
      • GMU GeoBrain is supporting the polar ecosystems scenario by processing landsat data
      • GMU and the Disasters scenario have been in contact.  BPEL power was used for the Fire Scenario in AIP-1.  Currently processing in the AIP-2 flood scenario is performed on the EO-1 satellite.
      • What is the status fo the SSE workflow? Is it being used in AIP-2?
      • Larry commented that the UML scenario analysis will identify workflow requirements.
    • Portals and Application Clients
      • Nadine Alameh provided an update for the Working Group
      • WG telecon on Feb 11th to develop UC04 and UC05
      • UC05 specialized usec ase for CAP is on a google sites page that needs to be linked into the P&C page - Herve to do this.
      • Jaxa resources were tested in support of the disaster management sceanrio

      • Consensus DECISION made to announce Test Phase 1 calling for components
      • ACTION: Percivall to develop e-mail announcing the start and send the message to AIP Plenary mailing list.
  • Community WG updates focusing on Scenarios
    • Climate Change and Biodiversity
      • No WG representative present to provide a report
    • Renewable Energy
      • Lionel Menard had to leave the telecon early but provided this WG udpate by e-mail
      • Work continues to build the internal procedure for bringing radiation data to map layer. I have a discussion on that topic about best practices with Herve.
      • Lionel attended the last CCRM Telecon, report about my action on the WAF for declaring Web Services. Josh, Doug Marteen and Nadine can report about it. I made some comments in the minutes of the Telecon on the Google Wiki site.
      • Lionel worked on the Scenario for Planner Matrix and take into account some comments from Herve and Nadine. It seems to be quite understandable by everyone and cope with both use cases and logic action orders.
      • Lionel is to send Robert some .war file for portlet deployment testing on a Portal candidate. We lack one of our developers here but I'm coffin dent to provide it soon.
      • Lionel will declare the existing portlet that support our Web Services to the registry for harvesting purpose.
    • Air Quality and Health
      • WG report provided by Stefan Falke and Erin Robinson
      • Telecon that discussed connecting AQ Scenario to Transverse Use Cases was of high benefit to the WG.
      • Scenario to Use Case Matrix for AQ was developed.
      • Discussion of UC01 applied to AQ for registering a WCS service.  AQ group is developing tools/approaches to produce metadata records based upon getCapabilities response.  Recall that getCapabilities does not directly include all information for registering a dataset. The AQ Portal will be an aid in this process.  May be reusable process for others to use.  To be discussed in future CCRM WG telecon.
      • Discussion of Portals and Clearinghouses.  The GEO Web Portals and the GEOSS Clearinghouses are distinct components.  GEO Web Portals are provided by ESRI, Compusult, and ESA.  GEOSS Clearinghouses are being developed by ESRI, Compusult and USGS.  ESA provides a Community Catalogue to GEOSS that performs clearinghouse functions for a specific community.  Each GEOSS Clearinghouse provides a CSW interface that is searchable by any CSW client.  For example Community Portals and Application Clients can be clients to the GEOSS Clearinghouse.
      • UC03 will describe how the Clearinghouse does distributed searching and harvesting.  The AIP-2 Call for Participation contains that information as well - see Figure 39
      • AQ WG is developing a sematic capability in the client side.  This should be described in UC04.  Phil Yang is the point of contact for this topic in the AQ WG.
    • Disasters
      • WG update provided by Stuart Frye
      • Continuing development of the Scenario.  A change is that since the International Charter does not allow testing, it cannot be invoked unless there is a disaster.  The Disaster WG is now working directly with the EO providers to implement the disaster scenario.  Emaphsis is on several CEOS members: ESA, JAXA, CSA, Taiwan.
      • Results are not yet posted from the previously held WG telecon linking the disasters scenario to the Use Cases.  ACTION: Percivall to check with Caumont about the status.  There are some differences in how the Scenario to Use Case MAtrix mapping is being completed for the differing Scenarios.
      • Disasters WG to participate in several upcoming meetings:CEOS SIT in March, Caribbean disasters meeting in March, Caribbean Meterology meeting in April.

        • Doug to check if the EDC/EROS RSS feed could be used (Michelle Anthony is the contact)
        • Yuqi Bai commented that the CSR should have a field for "test me" status.  This should be a long term direction.  Test me status could be displayed in the clients/portals.  Not all services are directly in the CSR but rather in the community catalogues.
        • Use Case for registration (UC#1) should consider adding "test me" step.
        • Two variations for "test me":
          • as a request to the test facility to test the service either in advance of operations or during ops
          • that the service is ready for client/server testing.
    • Clients to initiate testing after servers complete preparation
      • Add clients to current list: Energy Community Portal, Titan (ERDAS) for disasters, Northrop Grumman client for disasters

    • I believe and instance would need to be hosted somewhere for AIP-2
  • Twitter
    •   Suggested by Erin
    •  a microblog (140 characters or so) that can be used for status updates - may be too short
    •   it doesn't have the graphs and interface like it looks like Eventum has.
    •  It is handy b/c it produces an RSS feed that can be embedded other places.
  • Blogger
    • Suggested by Josh
    • Blogger: GEOSS AIP-2 Interchange Issues Blog.
    • You need to sign in with a Google Account
    • To learn more about Blogger and starting your own free blog visit http://www.blogger.com.

      • Nadine Alameh provided an update for the working group
      • WG has participated in the several transverse telecons - very valuable to defining the P&C content.
      • Roll of GEOSS Web Portals is becoming better understood.  There is a role for the Geo portals and the community portals in the community scenarios.
      • Anticipate posting drafts of use cases #4 (Search) and #5 (Presentation) this week.
      • Issue is the variable approaches of portals hooking to the clearinghouses and not the registries.
      • UC#5 will have differences for web service access versus alerts.
    • Test Facility
      • Gianni provided an update for the working group
      • WG activity is currently slow as the use case is posted
      • 11 tools have been registered

      • AIP Overview - George Percivall, OGC  ppt
      • Access Working Group - Glenn Rutledge, NOAA  ppt
      • Air Quality Working Group - Stefan Falke, Northrop Grumman  ppt
      • Comments to Glenn after the presentations were that it appears that GEO is a monolithic systems.  Discussion that this is an inacurate perception based upon the current state of development, e.g., use cases, that were emphasized in the presentations. Future presetations about AIP need to also cover how GEOSS is a system of systems that addresses reusable patterns in an environment of variations for each SBA application.
      • Perception was that all functions must go through the GEOSS portal.  This is not correct.
      • Use cases need to have their data on their own desktops as well as to make the data available for others to see.
      • Stefan Falke commented that the emphasis on user needs will now become the emphasis as we focus on the SBA scenarios.
    • GEOSS Sensor Web Workshop 2009, May 21-22, 2009, Tsukuba, Japan - to be discussed at future telecon
    • GEO 2009-2011 Work Plan Revision 1 - to be discussed at future telecon

    • Mike Tanner is on the GEO Secretariat staff to support the ADC with an emphasis on Climate.
      • He is secunded to the GEO Sec from the US-NOAA.
      • Mike is supporting the AIP since Osamu Ochiai's departure at the end of last year.
      • It is planned that two other persons will join the GEO Sec staff by March 2009 to support the ADC.  Support of the AIP Task is expected to transition from Mike to one of the other persons.  Mike will support the AIP until that time.
    • Mike provide updates on several important topics:
      • A summary of the GEO Sec support to the various committees of GEO.
      • The Data Sharing Task Team will become the Data Sharing Task Force
      • We should begin thinking about how AIP will support the Ministerial meeting in 2010.
      • The GEO Work Plan for 2009 should be issued in about a week.
  • Use Cases and Scenarios
    • George P provided a summary of the role of the Scenarios and Use Cases in the AIP-2
      • It is important that a consolidated list of use cases be baselined to allow for affective coordinated development of the Scenarios and Use Cases in a timely fashion in AIP-2.
    • Several topics regarding the Consolidated list of Use Cases were discussed
      • Josh Lieberman commented that further refinement is needed and that a page on Google Sites should be established for each Use Case.
      • Steve Browdy commented on the use case regarding adding standards to the GEOSS registry.  The SIF has created an interaction diagram but no text describing the updated registries to be deployed later this month.  It was agreed that the CCRM WG would continue to lead the development of this use case but will interact intesivley with the SIF.  Steve will raise this discussion at the SIF meeting later this week.
        • ACTION: Steve Browdy to bring discussion of this Use Case to the SIF.
      • Steve Browdy and Yuqi Bai provided an update on the development of the GEOSS Registries.  There will be a verison change later this month of the various registries.
        • ACTION:  Schedule a discussion of the GEOSS Registries update on a future AIP Plenary
      • Josh and George took an action to further refine the use case list.  This action has now (7 January) been completed and a message sent to the AIP Plenary.
    • Mapping between Scenarios and Use Cases
      • Each column of the matrix should be a Scenarion not a WG.  Some WGs have more than one Scenario.
      • Agreement that the Column Headings should link to the Scenarios
      • Agreement that the Row Headings should link to the Use Cases
      • Discussion that the cells of the matrix should link to additional detail.  This will need to be disucssed further.

      • The analysis of linkage of Scenarios and Use Cases has raised the need for more detail beyond the currently defined level of the use cases.  This is labled as "specialized use cases" in the Access WG table.
      • George P. commented that the Scenarios and Use Cases need to be at the abstract or "type" level and what the Access WG has identified is the need for development of specialized or "instance" level descriptions.  The specialized use cases need to contain the specific instances of services (with network addresses), datasets with specific parameters, and specific areas of Interest. The development of instance level definition must also relate to the development of storyboards for the demonstrations and to test planning for integration prior to the scenario demonstrations.  Stefan Falke and Hervé C. also confirmed that this next level of instance specifications need to be developed.
        • ACTION: George P. to draft a plan for AIP-2 test and demo including development of instance level specifications.
