OmniClass Location Properties
Seeking OGC Expertise:
To help define an appropriate set of location properties for OmniClass (OCCS). OmniClass is a new classification system to provide a structure for organizing library materials, product literature, and project information about the built environment. The classifications are always updating, currently released versions are available at http://www.omniclass.org/.
This particular question has to do with Table 49, Properties. The only place location information is classified in OmniClass is in the Properties table. In the OCCS definition, Properties are characteristics of construction entities. Property definitions do not have any real meaning out of context, without reference to one or more construction entities. Most likely, location properties will primarily be used with Table 11 Construction Entities by Function but could also be used to track product shipments and other location tasks.
The purpose is to create a short list following GIS naming conventions to define a GENERAL set of location properties that are simple enough to consistently align with OGC Standards and Building Information Modeling (BIM)standards. The current listing is below, first as it may appear in the table, next following Industry Foundation Class (IFC) conventions. There is a need to clarify which properties are redundant, and which typical or useful designators are missing. GPS? KML? GML? The properties need to work with all building and space types.
Although the terms below seem too elementary to require definition, many would also benefit from clear, concise definitions in the OGC Glossary.
