InterRisk

InterRisk is an FP6-IST project addressing interoperables GMES services for environmental risk management in marine and coastal areas of Europe. From their website:

InterRisk addresses the need for for better access to information for risk management in Europe, both in cases of natural hazards and industrial accidents. The overall objective is to develop a pilot system for interoperable GMES monitoring and forecasting services for environmental management in marine and coastal areas. The InterRisk pilot will consist of an open system architecture based on established GIS and web services protocols, and the InterRisk services to be implemented for several European regional seas.

The InterRisk system architecture will be developed in line with INSPIRE recommendations, and implementations and integration of services will build on existing soloutions from other GMES projects, notably the MASS GSTP and DISMAR projects. These projects have followed OGC standards for data and metadata distribution. Another established standard for distribution of geo-spatial data is the OPeNDAP protocol, and a number of open source software tools that support this protocol exist. OPeNDAP servers and clients will also be investigated in this project.
