Tile Map Service Specification

The Tile Map Service Specification, http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Tile_Map_Service_Specification, has been released. It looks very simple: an implied getCapabilities on directories and index based file based access. Has there been any more work on the idea of incorporating tiles into WMS?
