Online GIS Survey

My name is Lucy Stanbrough and I am a final year student at the University of Hertfordshire, currently undertaking my dissertation into the use of online GIS for natural hazards.

To date there have been no studies that that aim to identify and compare content providers

Thanks for the survey. The Cumberland River flooding has brought on destruction of not only buildings and structures. The Opryland Resort, next to the Grand Ole Opry, has flooded as well. The Opryland Hotel flooding has put many individuals out of work without any idea when things are going to be back to smooth operations. The devastation the local economy is experiencing speaks volumes when compared with a river flooding. The Grand Ole Opry and the Opryland Resort are huge tourist attractions for Nashville, and without the tourist revenue there isn't any telling just how bad the region is actually going to suffer. I hope that all turns out good for the citizens in the flooding regions.

There is a new study released from the National Research Council of the National Academies (US) titled, " Successful Response Starts with a Map: Improving Geospatial Support for Disaster Management". The report is the result of an 18 month effort in which the Committee gathered and collated expert testimony dozens of first responders, EMC managers and staff, EM professionals and so forth. The document provides a number of policy recommendations related to the more effective use of geospatial content and services for emergency management (preparedness, planning, response, logisitics, and post event).
