Wind Energy scenario steps

This scenario is under development to support the OGC Demonstration during the GEOSS Workshop in Beijing, May 2006.

 

Steps of the Wind Energy Scenario (2nd Draft)

  1. Search catalogs for datasets (Catalog Service/Metadata)
  2. Review selected map datasets (WMS)
  3. Categorize the wind speed data and select certain wind speed ranges, and display the results
  4. Draw wind direction (with symbols)
  5. Browse the weather station data (WFS), and select a more limited set of sites
  6. Calculate the area of each group of contiguous cells (i.e., a candidate site) and discard small sized candidates
  7. Measure the distance between the candidate sites and the nearest road segment
  8. Measure the distance between the candidate sites and the nearest transmission lines (or substation locations)
  9. Measure the distance between the candidate sites and the environmentally sensitive areas
  10. Exclude environmental and other exclusive areas from the group of candidates
  11. Review the terrain data to determine suitability for windfarm siting (possibly 3D/WTS)
  12. Search for the land ownership data for the limited set of sites
